Meal Prep Without Making It a Project

Simple meal preparation with vegetables

Meal prep does not have to mean cooking a week of identical containers. A more practical approach is to prepare a few building blocks that can become different meals.

Choose three building blocks

  • One easy protein or bean option.
  • One grain, potato, tortilla, or other base.
  • Two vegetables or fruits you will actually eat.

Prepare the friction, not the whole week

Wash what needs washing. Chop one or two ingredients. Cook one base. Portion a snack. Mix a simple sauce. Ten useful minutes can matter more than a complicated plan you will not repeat.

Let one ingredient do more than one job

Roasted vegetables can become a side dish, taco filling, bowl topping, or omelet addition. Beans can go into bowls, soups, salads, or wraps. Repetition is easier when the final meal still changes.

Keep one emergency meal

Choose one meal that uses inexpensive shelf stable or freezer ingredients and takes very little effort. It can keep a difficult day from turning into a more expensive last minute food decision.

Start small: Prep enough to make tomorrow easier. If that works, repeat it.
